The "El Rastro" Series was taken at a slaughterhouse in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, where the artist grew up. He is drawn to his working class environment, where "El Rastro" employs the people living in the area while also supplying them with the meat that comes from it. Garcia's hi-tech medium juxtaposes his mundane subject matter of survival: "This place is very real, but at the same time feels very surreal." Throwing off the ordinary with the obscure and profane, Garcia's work insists on transforming instincts into a magnificent piece of art.

Garcia was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, on March 15, 1977. He grew up in the Mexican states of Jalisco and Chihuahua. Today, he travels back and forth between Mexico and New Mexico, USA, and has dual citizenship.

He graduated with a BFA from the College of Santa Fe, NM, in 2003.


Materials:

Garcia creates high quality digitally manipulated photographs. The work is printed on an ultra chrome printer that manipulates seven pigmented inks. The paper is a summer set velvet radiant archival white photo enhanced acid free paper (clay coated). The images are dry mounted on metal (steel or aluminum).

All giclee print images are issued in a limited edition of 6, and are signed on the back.
